Sekuntum Mawar Merah

Watched the theatre Sekuntum Mawar Merah last night at DPac (Damansara Performing Arts Center) with my dears Ruzana Ibrahim, Eenaz Mokhtar and Khubayb.

I love how the story was beautifully presented in an artistic way. The flow, the graceful body language of the whole cast. The most beautiful part for me has to be when a pregnant mother came out with a long red trail of cloth which was floating in the air. A lot of times when the cast said something, I wondered and reflected and whispered to myself "that's deep". Made me reflect on a lot of things.

Love, dreams and revenge. Continuos karma in action. It's also about career and ambition. How far would you go to chase your dreams? Unexpected twists and turns on the plot of this story about love and revenge. It is a good story with a good script. I didn't expect the ending. In between the story, there was also lots of dancing and singing. Really enjoyed it.

The thing is, it is not easy to explain about a play via writing or even sharing a million photos. You really have to go witness it, watch it and experience it for yourself. Theatre is a branch of art and like other form of the arts, it is so subjective that it can touch (or not) other people differently. Different people see things differently. Go ahead and watch it and then you will know whether you like it or not. I like it  :)

Congratulations and well done team!

This piece is written and directed by Khairunazwan Rodzy and the musical director is Ayop Azril. The cast is Nadia Aqilah, Remy Ishak, Pelangi Chenta and Projek BB. The play has been running since 26th February 2015 and today (5th March 2015) is the last day. Go catch it!

The last theatre I blogged about was P Ramlee the MusicalNadia and Ruzana was in it too! Can't wait to watch the next play. I have no ida what it's going to be yet. Let me know if you know any potentially good and interesting theatres coming up soon.

In the meantime, enjoy the photos and a video snippet of one of the scenes at the end of this post.

Soulship 1 : Quenching the Thirst

The soul needs to be fed. Spiritually, we desire and long for that One thing. At times we feel empty or lonely. As though there's a hole in our heart but when we are reminded of the One, it is filled. And we feel whole. Like other things in this world do not matter anymore.

That was what I felt when I first went to Makkah and Madinah for the first time. It was a soul cleansing journey, a life changing experience for me. From someone who neglected my soul, neglected my spiritual needs and my religious obligations, that trip in 2012 changed me... in ways I could never have imagined before I went for the trip. You can read about how I felt during and after my first umrah trip in 2012. Before I started writing this post I re-read both of my entries more than 2 years ago, I Am Home and True Love : Unworthy Me. It still hits me. And I'm glad that I wrote those two posts. It reminds me of how I felt. And now that I am back again I can so relate to those things.

I've also written about how so many things have happened since I went for umrah in my post Time Travelling and Reflection. Just so many changes. My personality changed too. A lot of those who are close to me can testify I am still the same person but my actions now are different than before.

Anyways, I was finding for a suitable title to describe these series of my spiritual journey to Madinah and Makkah this time around... These were the contenders: Umrah 2015, Soulfeed, Soul Searching, Spiritual Jorney, True Love... In the end I decided on Soulship... It is also inspired by the title of my father's book (Raja Ahmad Aminullah), a compilation of over 30 years of his poems since his university days till the early 2000s.

Soulship. To me. It's a journey and a relationship of the soul. It's a quiet relationship that many neglect. Even me, before I was invited to His Holy House. But it is a lifelong journey. It doesn't stop. And it will continue even after our death. In this world though, we have to keep on searching for it. Balancing it. Strive to fight the negatives and bring in the positives.

In Islam, there are three holy cities: Makkah Al-Mukarramah (Makkah the Honoured/Holy City), Madinah Al-Munawwarah (Madinah the Illuminated/Shining City) and Baytul Maqdis (The Purified House).

Makkah Al-Mukarramah is where the Kaabah (House of God) is, inside the Masjidil Haram (The Holy Mosque). The Prophet said that one prayer in Masjidil Haram is equivalent to 100,000 prayers elsewhere.

Madinah Al-Munawwarah is the City of the Prophet, the location of Masjid An-Nabawi and the prophet's final resting place. The prophet said that one prayer in Masjid An-Nabawi is equivalent to 1,000 prayers elsewhere.

Baytul Maqdis is in Jerusalem and where the Masjid Al-Aqsa is located which was the qiblat of the early Muslims before it changed to Kaabah.

How my perspectives have changed after my umrah trip in 2012. After that trip, I have been wanting to go again. The first time I went, I actually felt like I was in a different, more peaceful and serene world and didn't want to leave and I did not feel that I fit in anymore when I came back. But after awhile I adapted back.

All praises to Allah for inviting me to be His guest again. I have missed it both MAdinah and Mekkah so very much before I went back there again... Lepas rind sekejap... And now the missing continues...

I mentioned in Turn My Life Around that I was going to umrah again.  This time around I think I adjusted pretty well when I came back. I could go straight in to work and all that. But I am worried though.

I was told that umrah mabrur (the accepted worship) is when whatever we do in the holy lands are consistent and we keep on doing it when we are back here. For instance in Makkah or Madinah we usually go to the mosque to pray so when we are back here we will have to be consistent too. May we all try our best to be a better person day by day and may we remain consistent.

There are so many things that I want to share here...

In my next post, I will share about the preparations before umrah and my journey from KLIA to Jeddah to Madinah, God Willing.

Soulship 2: Preparation and Start of a Journey

This is a continuation from Soulship 1 : Quenching the Thirst.

This time around I went with the husband, his parents and his uncles and aunties. There were 11 of us family members and in the group there were 22 people altogether. It is quite a small group. We went with Tabung Haji. We had a mutawwif together with an ustaz. It is very helpful to have them around to guide us, to help us with the check-ins at the hotels, keeping all our passports, bringing those who are not well to clinicians and hospitals, sharing beneficial knowledge, and also giving us talks and reminders during our bus rides and making sure that everything goes smoothly. Alhamdulillah.

Of course, before umrah, there are preparations that need to be done. You will have to apply for your visa. To submit your visa, you need to get a meningococcal vaccine shot and certify your marriage certificate or birth certificate. For women, especially, those that want to go to Umrah will have to be accompanied by their husbands or male family members or mahram (brother, father, uncle or sons).

You will also have to attend a special umrah course so that you can learn how to do your worship there properly. There are special rituals and religious observations which are different from our daily rituals. The first time I went in 2012 was when I learned about tawaf, sa'ie and tahalul. Before that I never knew what it was. I never knew why men came back bald after umrah. I never actually asked. Until it was my time to go. All of a sudden I had the sudden thirst of knowing. A thirst to learn. A craving to know a way how I can do more. How I can try to be a better slave to the One who created us. The One who we all belong to and who we will return to. I craved to have a stronger faith. I prayed for it. Because back then, I was lost. Confused and lost. I felt an emptiness and a void or a hole in my heart that no human or thing in this world could fill. And then I went for that umrah trip in 2012. And I felt whole and complete. I felt happy and thankful for everything that I was blessed with. Things I don't deserve but God has blessed me with anyways.  He saved me from myself. He saved me and blessed me with so many many more. It was then I realised that He was my One True Love, the Almighty Allah. (read : True Love : Unworthy Me)

Anyways, back to the preparation for umrah... We were also given a list of things to bring for the umrah trip. When I first looked at the list I was actually really overwhelmed. There are so many things that I didn't have or haven't gotten. It was only less than a week to go. So I quickly bought the necessities. I was so blessed that two of my best friends also loaned their stuffs for me to bring there. Other than the material type of preparation, we are also advised to spiritually prepare ourselves a few weeks before we left. By doing the solat sunats, reading and reciting more of the Quran.

I must admit though during my first umrah trip I wasn't spiritually prepared before I left. I didn't really do any reading of the Quran and the solat sunats (supererogatory prayer). I only actually started when I went to Madinah and Mekkah. The usuals are solat Tahiyatul Masjid, Solat Taubat (repentance), Solat Syukur , Solat Hajat. I even learned to do my first solat dhuha when I was in Madinah. I remember I was just starting to memorise Surah al-Dhuha at that time. And then when I came back I craved for it. Eventhough it is not obligatory, I felt my day was incomplete if I don't steal some time to do it between 8am-12pm. I fell in love with surah al-Dhuha and the meaning of the supplication (do'a) after the solat Dhuha prayer.

For umrah, depending on your package, you either go to Makkah Al-Mukarramah first or Madinah Al-Munawwarah. There is a difference because if you want to enter Makkah to do your umrah, you have to be in the state of ihram before you enter the City. Meaning you have to wear it on the plane. This time around, we went to Madinah first.

In this post I'm sharing photos of us before we left Malaysia and pictures of us at the Jeddah airport after the 13 hour flight.  Stepping foot at Jeddah alone already makes me so happy. After the long flight I was just so excited and it felt so serene. The Jeddah airport is quite beautiful with the umbrella-like roof covers. We arrived slightly after 11 p.m. We performed our Maghrib and Isya' prayers at the airport and then we took the bus to Madinah. I think most of us slept all the way. We reached there after a 5 hour bus ride.

We arrived at our hotel, Anwar Movenpick just an hour before subuh (Fair). After we got ready I took some pictures of the hotel for memories sake. We then left the hotel and walked towards the mosque and had our first time stepping foot at the gorgeous Masjid Nabawi. That I will share in my next post. :))

If you have anything at all you need to know or want me to share about my umrah trip do let me know and probably I'll try do a blogpost to explain about it or try to reply your comments.

Here in this post are photos (and captions) captured by me and Khubayb from KLIA to Jeddah and then when we reached our hotel in Madinah the next day. Memories that will last a lifetime, insyaAllah.

Photos of us we managed to capture in KLIA, in flight, Jeddah and Madinah. All in one post. :)

We have to wear this tag at all times. However, sometimes I just put it in my bag. Hehe. There are millions of people in both Madinah and Mekkah, so just in case anything happens, we have the tags with us for identification purposes. :)

Happy me when I reached Jeddah. This was captured after we have passéd immigration.
Everything went so quickly and smoothly.
This was taken while we waited to board our bus.

My mom, Wan, sending me off at KLIA. I hope next time I will get to go for umrah with my parents too :) InsyaAllah.

My brother HAriz who sent me off at the airport took this photo of Khubayb and I.

Excited!

My mother took this photo of me and my in-laws.

My first umrah trip with the husband, Khubayb.
Can't describe my excitedness at this time.
One of the major steps we have taken as husband and wife.
Alhamdulillah.

with my MIL and mother, Mama and Wan.

I remember I was singing Menuju ke Madinah (by Al-Mawlid) with Khubayb on the way to board the plane. Just super excited at the time.

After we slept after few hours, we woke up and I said let's take a selfie.
It's so nice that there's an audio and visual al-Quran for us to listen to and read the translation on our way to Jeddah.
It's a beautiful journey.

Stepping foot in Jeddah!
I wore aere's ZEPHYR Draped Dress on top of a long sleeved dress and a shawl on my beck together with a Sugarscarf.

Briefing by our tour guide before we go on the bus.

Of course a selfie before he starts to carry all the bags into the bus.
Our puffy tired yet excited face after a 13 hour flight :)

That's our bus at the back. Za'er.

Bed sweet bed! Alhamdulillah.

When we on the TV we will always hear the melodious reading of the Holy Quran or the HAdiths of the Prophet and the translation at the bottom. There are also images of the surroundings and the happenings in the Mosque.

Captured the view from the hotel room. The beautiful streets of the city of Madinah.
The city of the Prophet...
I miss... so very much.

I have missed blogging so much! I can't believe it has been 2 weeks since my last post. I didn't purposely neglect my blog but to be honest I have been extremely busy, day and night. I can't remember when I had more than 4 hours of sleep this past few weeks really. I've planning and working on aere's collection Blossoming of Grace to be released tomorrow morning at www.fashionvalet.com/aere! It's a collection that I've been working on since last year.

Anyways, today I attended a Fashion Show of #SchaxFV and I wore aere's VIOLA Skirt from the Blossoming of Grace collection together with the classic (at least to me hehe) ZERENE top from aere's first collection, Nature of Grace and I paired it with a scarf from Yadotsa.

The first collection,  Nature of Grace is the introductory breeze for aere. The gentle wind across the face. This second collection to me is more about the beginning of the blossoming of this label. I’ve started to express myself more: there are more designs and more experimenting with rich and deep colours in the palette.

I'm not going to reveal too much today though! You have to see for yourself tomorrow. Follow aere's IG to stay updated and click on aere tomorrow.

Will blog more about the collection pretty soon :)

My Relaxing Weekend

As mentioned in my previous post, I have been crazy busy preparing for aere's launch last Thursday and I felt like I've neglected my husband for quite a bit. Hehe. Well, he had a very busy week too. So on Friday night, after a long week, we finally managed to have some time together and watched a movie. The only one available at such last minute was Cinderella. So yes, we watched Cinderella and one message resonates throughout the whole movie. "Have courage and be kind".

No matter what happens, be kind. If we are treated unfairly, never seek revenge and never be unkind. Forgiveness takes so much strength but when we forgive and we let go, we will be in a much happier state of mind. So, be kind. It sounds easy and simple, but sometimes we forget. Even though the Cinderella movie I assume was targeted more for kids, I kind of enjoyed watching it too. Just like how I enjoyed Frozen too. Hehe. (Not embarassed to admit)

Yesterday, we visited my in-laws for late lunch with the family. With my nieces, we played heads up and our favourite categories were Fairy Tales and Disney characters. It was fun playing heads up with the kids. We also played rock-paper-scissors too. Or more like "osom". :p

After spending some time with my in-laws, we went to Pavillion to buys some stuffs and have supper. I wore the OLIVA in Indigo. What I love most about this oversized top is the buttons at the sleeves which I can open up anytime I feel like it and I like the exaggerated loose fit which is so comfy. The eat as much as you can kind of top. Hehe. The structured material of the OLIVA top makes sure that it doesn't cling to your body so it's not figure-hugging.

I paired it with the skants (skirt+pants) I wore in my post Tenun & Skants in Jakarta for a very casual weekend, but it was comfortable enough for me to be running around with my nieces (more like running around chasing after them) what with their rollerblades, skateboards and all sorts of other toys). Being a kid is lots of fun!

There's just something very exciting about the night ambience of Bukit Bintang. The lights, the never-ending cars stuck on the road, all the people from all walks of life and countries walking about.. The last time I went to Bukit Bintang was in my post RED NIGHT OUT.

Till my next post!

He was busy watching football :p

Ivory at Work

When I was working as a corporate lawyer, I didn't always have to wear the black and white attire. We were free to wear colours, as long as it suited the corporate look. But what I really wanted and couldn't find was a white suit. That's why I came up with a white suit through aere. So in this post, I'd thought I would give some tips on how to wear aere's white ivory suit.

First of all, a  lot of people say that the white ivory suit is impractical at work. For men, yes, I think it's a no-no to wear a white suit for work. However, for women, it's different. Of course, it depends on what profession or field you are in, but if the workplace isn't too conservative and allows for a little sense of fashion, you should consider wearing a white suit.

White is such a strong and pure colour, giving a bold statement just by itself. Everyone is drawn to the crisp and attractive white. It's a symbol of purity. It's also easy to match up with. Why is it easy? Because similarly to black, everything goes well with white.

For this look, I paired up the SALVIA Blazer in Ivory together with the ASTER Pants in Ivory with the ROSEA Top in Ivory and a gold-coloured scarf from dUckscarves. I think it gives a modern, formal yet fresh vibe and especially since women have more pieces and accessories to work with, the white ivory suit can be used in the office but for that it's recommended to use darker colours for your tops or scarf (brown, black, dark blue) to play down the white ivory suit.

But, the white ivory suit can also be used for a more casual look. Go for bright and fresh coloured tops, especially pastel. Vibrant print tops can also be worn underneath it and it's just perfect and not too formal.

You can also use the white ivory jacket and pants separately. You might be wondering, what can be paired with a white ivory jacket right? Try using it with your boyfriend denim jeans or either dark brown or blue skirt. Similarly, the pants can be used with a navy blue top.

It's not too tricky. The trick is to know the look you're going for and to be confident of your own style. Keep experimenting and mix it up!

To know more about the details of the aere pieces I'm wearing in this post, just click SALVIA Blazer in Ivory, ASTER Pants in Ivory and ROSEA Top in Ivory.

Have fun styling your looks!

Behind the Blossoming : Part 1

It was a fun and hot sunny Sunday that 15th March 2015. This time around, for aere's second collection, I decided to have a lifestyle photoshoot with me in it and two people that I was really really comfortable with: Dearest Ruzana Ibrahim and Lisa Surihani. These two sweethearts and beautiful souls who agreed to do the shoot with me in a very short period of time. And I'm not exaggerating, really short time! I'm really grateful that they agreed to it :) I must thank Lisa and Aunty Mira for the venue too! Since it was my first photoshoot of this kind, I know it was going to be quite intimidating. Surrounded by talented individuals and pros who are very experienced in their own fields helped me. Doing it together with Ruzana and Lisa was indeed a blessing :) It was super fun and crazy zany full of laughter!

It also helps so much that I had a very cool, efficient and talented team and support together with me. I had a professional team of photographers led by Aaron, KF Bong as make up artist for the three of us, Min Luna as art director on the day of the shoot, FV's team who are so used to handling a lot of photoshoots: Veen Dee Tan, Mazni Musa and Athirah Abdul Halim and of course the husband Khubayb aka @kneok who helped around as well as taking all the BTS photos you see here in this post! :)

Here in this post I'll be sharing the behind-the-scenes photos of the first scene of the shoot. The casual wear (aere LIGHT) scene.

In this scene, I wanted to picture girlfriends hanging out, chilling, catching up and having fun while having tea and eating desserts. Something that we ladies usually do with our girlfriends, catching up. :)

I remember I didn't sleep the week before this photoshoot. Planning, imagining and visualising the photoshoot and the end result.  I also came up with a story line for the shoot and also planned the looks too. I was so nervous the week before the shoot!

Here are some of the BTS photos of us on set during the memorable and fun photoshoot! I'll share more story and photos in my next post :)

Us getting ready before we sunbathed under the hot sun! It was a blast having these two at the shoot who not only calmed me but cracked me up with jokes at all the wrong time. We were laughing non-stop! Lisa and Ruzana my loves!

What We Wore :

Lisa : HEDERA Glister Top in Nude Silver and VIOLA Skirt in Indigo
Ruzana : OLIVA Top in Yale Blue and ASTER Pants in Nude
Me : OLIVA Top in Oxblood and VIOLA Skirt in Blush

All from aere. :) And my scarves in the shoot were all from dUCkscarves.

Here's a sneak peek of my next BTS post, the workwear (aere MIGHT) line. A photo of me and dear Veen Dee who helped a lot before and during he photoshoot. :) Thanks babe for helping me make it happen!

Remember in Blossoms of Indigo, I mentioned about going to the #SchaxFV fashion show? Here, I am wearing my favourite piece from the whole SchaxFV collection. Why is it my favourite? Because I just love box pleats and the colours! I feel that it is so me! Hehe. Dusty pink peach and grey were the colours of my wedding dress that I wore on my wedding reception dinner and as I've mentioned so many times before, blue is one of my most fav colour! So the combination of blush, grey and light blue is definitely a must-have for me. So that's why this top is my pick!

The Jasmine Top in Blue from the SchaxFV collection is one of the many designs launched on FV today. It's a collaboration between the humble, beautiful and down to earth Scha Alyahya and Fashion Valet. So go check them out!

Last weekend I decided to go for a pastel blocking look by pairing the Jasmine Top with aere's VIOLA Skirt in blush. Wore a Paripari Shawl in one of my favourite shades of blue and a pair of gold heels and Ivory and gold handbag. I'm in love with the colour combination. Seriously love the photos that Khubayb aka @kneok took near his office last Sunday. Hehe. I may be biased but whatever :)

Anyway, to get a 10 % off your orders for aere items at aere's page on FV, insert "OKFINEGST" when you checkout. Only till end of April 2015. :)

It’s no secret that my favourite type of holiday is a holiday by the beach. Our country and region is blessed to have such beautiful beaches and seas. As far as beaches go, recently I’ve been to Parangtritis (in Jogjakarta), Bali, Redang and Krabi, amongst others, places that have absolutely beautiful beaches! I've written about some of them and also posted pictures of these beautiful beaches before in my previous posts; (click the titles to see)

So when I heard that Fashion Valet is teaming up with the Luxe Nomad for a contest in which the winner will win a 4-day 3 night trip to two to Paresa Phuket, Thailand as well as a RM 1000 top-to-toe outfit from Fashion Valet, I just couldn’t resist to enter.  Below are some of the photos that took my breath away (found the photos on their website and from Mr Google)

Paresa means “The heavens of the Heavens”. Overlooking the Kamala Bay and the beautiful Andaman Sea, it’s the place I’d really like to be with my hubby right now. Above and away from the crowd, and from everyone else, the place is beyond gorgeous and dare I say it, heavenly. If heaven on earth looks gorgeous like this, I wonder how the actual heaven looks like. Its beauty must be beyond imagination. I can't wait to go and enjoy the  wonders of nature.

Getting FV to pick up the tab for the outfit for this super awesome vacay is an added bonus. Seriously! In fact, I can already imagine what I’d be wearing there. I don't usually pack light on my vacations, but I usually bring separates for me to do what I love to do with my clothes. Mix and match! Maxi dresses, outerwears, tops and a pair of pants. Light coloured items for the day and darker ones for night time. These are my picks:

Light and easy maxi dresses

Outerwears to go with my sleeveless dresses and tops

Somehow ivory pieces below look very beachy. Love them all!

Click the names (link) above to check out the items. Of course I'll be bringing my aere pieces too. Heehe.

I’d like to win a stay at Paresa Phuket on The Luxe Nomad to enjoy a piece of heaven on earth and spend some quality time with the husband at the heavens of the Heavens, where all of our worldly problems can be left behind even before we reach there so that we can just enjoy the nature, the beauty of God's creation, the quietness, and just enjoy each other’s company.

You guys can enter too. The mechanics are just so simple:

1. Create one (or more) blog posts on what you will wear from FV and why you want to stay at Paresa Phuket.

2. Share with us the link to your post on Instagram by tagging @fashionvaletcom and @theluxenomad.

3. Also hash tag #fvtlngetaway and tag 3 friends.

Note: You guys must include somewhere in your blogpost “I’d like to win a stay at Paresa Phuket on The Luxe Nomad…” and link to this page https://www.theluxenomad.com/phuket/villas

For terms & conditions, please refer to http://www.fashionvalet.com/fvtlngetaway.

Oh, I forgot to mention that the contest ends TODAY. Well, it’s better late than never and you know that last minute panic sometimes provide the best inspiration, right? Hehe Go, go, go and dash for your dream getaway now!

Friday For Two

One of my earliest memories of TGIF was 6 years ago when my friends surprised me for my birthday. They made me stand on a chair and sing in public in front of my friends and the TGIF crew. It was at TGIF the Curve. It was embarrassing at the time but looking back, the antics of the fun TGIF crew made it a very memorable occasion.

I found out about TGIF’s meal for two promotion and just couldn't refuse to try it. It is super affordable as we only have to pay RM45.90++ for 2 main dishes and an appetizer. TGIF's famous good food at such an affordable price? I just had to check it out.

So last week, I had a date with fellow blogger Namee Roslan for a food tasting session of the promotion. Both of us were already super excited to meet each other and have dinner together the week before! I’ve been to TGIF a number of times before but I was really excited to see how the Meal for 2 promotion works and the mains on offer.

Boy, TGIF never fails to disappoint!  There are four appetizers to choose from, but of course, during the food tasting we could taste all 4. The portions were very huge and generous! We could've been full just from eating the appetizers alone. It's definitely meant for sharing.

Then we chose our individual main course. All of the choices looked mouth-watering and we were spoilt for choice. Namee and I decided to share our main courses too because we couldn't decide on just one. I ordered the Wild Mushroom Farfalle and Namee decided on the Fish and Chips. Both of the meals were delicious and we kept on swapping plates. In the end, we were both fighting over the last serving of the pasta. Hehe.

The portions for the mains are also very big and its also for sharing. There’s a variety of dishes to choose from too. Some of them include Cajun Chicken Salad, Hibachi Chicken Skewers, Chili & Garlic Shrimp and more!

The promotion is definitely well worth it. In fact, just a few days later after the food tasting, last weekend, I brought my family to TGI because of the promotion. Since there were 8 of us, it was easy for us to take up the 4 sets for sharing.

Just look at the photos below of the food we had and prepare to be salivating!  Im not sure when the promo will end so you guys better go and check it out now!

Second in Heaven : The Supposed Special Day

13th April 2015. Her estimated due date was 12/13th April 2013. It was supposed to be her birthday. But that was what it was. Her "estimated" due date.

Not everyone will remember a baby's EDD or even birthday. But their parents will always remember it. Always.

You can't tell them to forget it. It's just something that we will always remember even more when they are no longer with us.

How can anyone forget the day they gave birth to their child? I for one never could. It was one of the most beautiful moments I have ever experienced in my entire life. To witness the miracle of God's creation.

I wrote about how difficult it was for me and the husband to visit our daughter's grave this year in my post Second in Heaven 15.1.15. I didn't understand why it was so difficult. We planned to go but couldn't. I prayed for the strength to go to her kubur (grave) after umrah but we both still couldn't. We kept ourselves busy with work and everything else. She was in our minds and thoughts all the time but we couldn't bring ourselves to visit her grave.

Flashbacks. Beautiful moments, painful moments all came running through my mind. Moments when she was still with us. To others it may seem that it's just a short time, but for me it feels like a lifetime. Her lifetime.

Finally yesterday, we went. We visited her...

I can't continue writing... I whatsapped the husband. He told me to continue writing... So many things I'm feeling in my heart and so many things I'm thinking about in my mind... I couldn't stop my tears from flowing just now. Trying to hide from anyone see me crying.

I just finished reading my last letter to her. Second in Heaven : Mama's Letter to Jibrael.

I'm okay now. Managed to stop the tears from running down my cheeks.

The thing is, when I went to her grave yesterday I didn't cry. We both didn't cry for the first time. The weather was nice because the rain just stopped so it wasn't hot. It was cool. We still haven't done anything about the grave. Haven't decorated it or whatever you call it. There were chickens and cats running around. Previously I've never seen chicken and cats running around like that at her grave.

My daughter is too beautiful for earth. God knows best. Her soul is too pure. So instead of going through life on earth God sent her straight to heaven instead. Where there is no pain, no hurt, no suffering and no need for painful tears. She's at a place where all of should aim to go to when our time in this earth is up. We don't know when that will be. For my daughter, she lived in this world less than a day. That is already a gift in itself and I'm thankful to witness God's miracle through her.

Life is short. Sometimes we might think that it's taking a long time for us to go to the future but when we look back we always feel that time is moving so fast. For me, it has already been two years since she went away and left this world. It really feels like yesterday especially on dates like this, I feel it even more. Flashbacks kept running through my head which makes it hard for me to try and focus on other things. But, of course, I try my best to focus on life and other responsibilities that I have right now. Whether I succeed or not, is a totally different thing altogether.

Eventhough it wasn't easy but I am blessed that the husband is with me this year. Alhamdulillah. Last year he wasn't. I wrote last year in Her Due Date : 13.4.13 : Expect the Unexpected XV.

I really don't know how to do this sometimes. The husband too. It's not something we both expected. I didnt expect it won't be easy for us to do certain things that before this would be so easy to do. I didnt expect that the second year will be tougher than before. We are still learning each and every single day on how to go through it. I guess the learning is a never ending process. Just like other parents learn every single day on how to raise their kids, parents like me and Khubayb learn how to cope with the loss of a child. Parents of children in heaven. We are really trying our very best to learn.

Yesterday was an achievement for the both of us. :) For both me and my husband to bring ourselves to our daughter, Jibrael's grave. Finally we have the strength this year, to go. All strength and power comes from the Almighty.

I miss her. So much.

And don't tell me it's wrong to miss my daughter because missing is the price we pay when we love someone so  much. And it is not wrong to love our own child.

May Allah protect her and let her have the best of time up there in heaven. A wonderful time none of us can even begin to imagine. May our love for our daughter and the remembrance brings us closer to the One who created love and everything that exists. May we all be blessed with His Love.

PEACE & LOVE!

Managed to get my hands on the black KL City Scarf from dUCkscarves that everyone went crazy about! This is the full look I wore  to the Sekuntum Mawar Merah theatre which I blogged awhile back. Paired the scarf with aere's OLIVA top together with my husband's pants. (Yes, I can wear my husband's pants. Not the other way around though)

I created the OLIVA as a comfy, no-need-to-think staple top that I can wear daily to work, without looking lazy. The fabric also is luxe enough to make it look good on its own.

Shea Rasol captured all the photos above and I miss us taking photos of each other!

I also miss drinking through a straw right now as I just had surgery to remove all 4 of my wisdom tests 2 days ago.

Bestnya Bersama Music Festival

It was because of my belief that more and more people are now starting to appreciate and celebrate local talents in all areas that I also decided to also plunge into the fashion business not so long ago. And Alhamdulillah, you might be surprised to find out that since I set up my brand. I’ve been getting a lot of help and support, especially from big organizations and from those who are really pushing for new talents to shine for our future.

On a similar note, although it’s not fashion-related, it was also very refreshing for me personally to hear about the Bestnya Bersama “A” Music Festival held by Samsung Malaysia on 14-3-2015 to showcase local and up-coming talented singers as the front liners– including Izzue Islam, Najwa Latiff, Liyana, Ke Qing, Paperplane Persuit, An Honest Mistake and Shawn Lee. Samsung really went all out to provide a platform and gather an array of multi-talented local artistes of different genres to show us true Bestnya Bersama collaboration stages. The local artistes need every single support we can get. I really wished I could’ve gone to the concert. But even though I didn’t go, I was still able to get the glimpse of the Bestnya Bersama spirit fromSamsung’s YouTube channel. Go check it out to see howour Malaysian boys and girls united to celebrate togetherness with this catchy song called “Bestnya Bersama”.

The artistes also formed the ‘Samsung A Team’ andhave been the active ambassadors of the newly launched Samsung GALAXY A smartphones which I blogged about on my earlier post: The Love of Galaxy. You know, where I attended the launch of the cool phone with the Wide Selfie feature up to 120°. I still haven’t seen any other phone that could take selfies like the one in my previous post! The quality of the pictures were stunning too – as you can see in the previous posting – with its 5MP front camera, selfies are no longer grainy and of low quality. The flawless picture was also an awesome product from their Beauty Face feature – with that, everyone can look gorgeous instantly in any selfies! Oh and not to forget the Palm Selfie feature – now, all you need to do to take a good selfie is to just show your palm to the camera without taping on the capture button! And guessed what’s more interesting? Samsung Galaxy A5 has this new feature called Animated Selfie, where you can take up to 20 continuous photos which can be shared as gif file. Try out this cool feature for yourselves and watch all your pictures coming alive. We had fun trying them out earlier during the launch, and we had a lot of fun.

Besides all those amazing camera features, the design of Samsung GALAXY A is absolutely stunning.  In fact, its slim & sleek full-metal design is still the hottest talked-about phone amongst my friends .The GALAXY A comes in 4 dazzling colours – Gold, Silver, White & Black –, to match all your style and taste! Like what I said before in the previous posting, the sleek design will definitely act as a trendy accessory to any of the outfit. Here are a few example outfits that I can think of already!

If you haven’t had a chance to explore the phone yet, go to www.samsung.com/my/a5 to quickly check it out, or visit the nearest Samsung outlet to try out all the wonderful features I just mentioned!

Well, to conclude, congrats to the ‘Samsung A team’ for rocking the concert and thanks for truly uniting us together with your mind-blowing Bestnya Bersama collaboration performances!

Vintage Treasures

Today, was a lovely day :) I went to a vintage shop, Hariz Vintage in Publika just before a lunch date with kneok. I haven't been there for quite a while so I was just looking around and kneok was snapping some photos of the items I liked. I love being surrounded by items which have stories behind them.

As I was walking and looking around I found a treasure! A real gem!  A poster of one of my favourite ever paintings by the great Salvador Dali. I smiled the biggest smile and told kneok I just had to have it! I was so excited I felt like jumping before realizing that I couldn't. (I'm recovering from a 4-wisdom teeth surgery and a sprained ankle as I fell down the stairs but I'm getting much much better). The simplest thing that I love can bring so much joy!!!

I'm sure you know that feeling when you were just browsing through and window shopping and suddenly you found something that you really love and couldn't resist buying?? Yes, I was feeling exactly that! I blogged about the painting when I just started to blog 6 years ago. See my 2009 post : Persistence of Memory

This is what Iove about going to shops like this. You don't know what to expect. Suddenly, you might be surprised by finding things that only you would love so much! An attached memory, or something bringing you back to your childhood. Of course, sometimes you won't find anything you like, sometimes you will. But looking through vintage stuffs and browsing them brings us back to a different time, place and culture. It's really an amazing feeling which you can only experience when you do it.

Some of you might know that I love and appreciate vintage items. You've seen me in vintage bags and outfits before, though I like to spice it up with new things, new outfits, different colours, to come up with a different look. One thing about vintage items is that 99% of the time you know no one else will have it. So to me, it adds a uniqueness that no money can buy.

A vintage item that turns into a classic item is valuable. Because it means that the beauty is timeless. It manages to stay true through the test of time. Vintage items have soul, have their own story to tell and have managed to survive to tell it. Whatever the beautiful flaws to it makes it even more valuable compared to the manufactured perfection of a new product. (See my post : Imperfections are Beauteous)

Some of us might not realise it, but even if we don't wear vintage items, we have actually been inspired by a vintage item or a vintage look at some point in time. and I'm not just talking about fashion. The arts. Movies, music, visual arts and theatres are all inspired by the cycle of timeless taste at some point or the other. In fashion, vintage looks make a comeback allll the time. It evolves. It returns.

My mom always passes down to me items she wore more than 20 years ago. It's vintage and I love it because I get to play mix and match them together with my new fashion items. I like the fact that when I feel like I have nothing to wear, I can just go and rummage through my mother's wardrobe and get creative. It's a satisfaction when I get to find stuffs 20 years ago that I can still wear and still in fashion now. With what I am doing now with aere, I hope that the pieces will be a classic and maybe 20 to 100 years down the line people can still use it and call it a vintage aere item! Haha.

In fact, it was a coincidence that I was wearing my mom's vintage handbag today too. I was also wearing a batik skirt by BatikabyHudaa. Batik skirts are also timeless classics from the olden days which still remains relevant even today. (Will blog about my look today soon so that you can see how I mix and match new and vintage items. Wearing @chiqueveils and Thesut top from FV)

My appreciation towards vintage items and antiques came from my dad. When I was little he would always bring me to different places selling antiques and vintage items. When we were travelling overseas, he will bring me to those places too.

I love the feeling of finding something valuable for much much less. You know the value is very high and because you can't find it anywhere else or because of it's rarity, you know its very valuable but when you find a bargain you know you have to get it!

Oh, by the way. I got to purchase the Dali poster at a 50 percent discount because they're having a 50 percent discount off all items! I can't be more happier! What a bargain?! I'll surely drop by again before the sale at Hariz Vintage shop ends this 5th of May 2015.

Hariz Vintage sells vintage and collectible items including framed old movie posters, European social posters, rare old photos, vintage furniture items, old wooden doors, vintage and old textiles (old Malay songket), old Malay sarong including batik sarong, batik lepas, vintage kebaya, art books and some decorative art.

So if you are interested in culture, a vintage lover and appreciate the artsy side of this life go follow Hariz Vintage at Facebook to stay tuned for updates. In the meantime, go drop by an enjoy a 50 percent discount on all items as they are having a relocation sale!

As for now, their address is Lot 24, Level G2, Publika Shopping Gallery, No.1, Jalan Dutamas 1, Solaris Dutamas, 50480 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Email : harizvintage@gmail.com.

Go check them out if you are at Publika KL.

Silver Lilium Night

You know when there are days you have so many things happening in a day and you just have to impossibly juggle everything in the same day? Or when your day is filled with work and business meetings during the day on a weekday and you have to rush off to an event in the afternoon or at night? We women are such multi-taskers aren't we all? :)

I actually *love* those kind of days because it makes us stay on our toes and we have no choice but to get more creative with the limited time that we have. Busy days and the adrenaline rush are good when you are doing the things you love.

Here is a look I wore on one of those kind of days. I attended Alia Bastamam's Bridal fashion show at KL Hilton at night (it was amazing and I'll share photos and videos of the show in the blog soon!) straight after a very hectic and busy day settling lots of work and running here and there for aere during the day.

So, knowing that I had an event at night, what I did was during the day I wore aere's ASTER Pants in Nude and and HEDERA Top in Nude Silver. Then at night, for the fashion show I just glammed up the look by wearing aere's LILIUM Cardigan in Silver over my day wear. The Aster pants and the Hedera top are very good pieces for layering as they are light and thin. Since my main statement piece for this look is the cardigan, I made sure that all my other pieces in this outfit neutral even though the top, pants, shawl, shoes and bag are all in a different shade of grey, nude and gold.

The sequinned cardigan can totally glam up any kind of outfit for any events during the day or even for a special night out. For me personally, I love pieces which I can use again and again by just mixing and matching it with other items to create a different look. And the LILIUM really do just that. I made it a loose fit design so that it can be versatile. Next time I want to try style the cardigan with a belt.

Want to know why I named this piece LILIUM? The names of aere's designs for this latest collection is derived from the names of flowers in Latin. Since aere itself comes from the Latin word air, so naturally, I feel that it was right for me to give Latin names to the designs this time around :)

The flower name, LILIUM in Latin means majesty. :) Majesty describes dignity, beauty and royal power and I think my LILIUM Sequinned Cardigan embodies just that!

I haven't been able to blog as much as I've been super duper busy planning the release of the newly-released aere NIGHT line from the Blossoming of Grace Collection. (A continuation of my first collection for aere's Nature of Grace collection). I released the aere MIGHT line (workwear) and aere LIGHT line (casual wear) before I released the aere NIGHT line (evening wear) for the Blossoming of Grace collection. So, if you have a look at aere's page now you'll find everything you need from casual, work to evening wear. It is really something that I've been working hard on since the middle of last year. The design process, the sampling and production all started in July 2014.

Do check it out!

Hope everyone is doing well. I've been feeling under the weather, coughing like cray since last Monday. Couldn't sleep well because of the coughing. People around me seem to be not so well too. It might be the flu and coughing season now.

When feeling like this wearing cheerful and bright colours like this really brings up the mood. It kinds of conceal any pain we feel. At least, that's how I feel :)

I'm wearing 3 shades of pink today. Ballet pink top, dusty peachy pink skirt and a hot pink scarf. For just for a pop colour I'm wearing one of my favourite vintage bag.

The top I'm wearing today is the ROSEA Faux-Leather Zipped Cuffs Top from aere LIGHT (casual wear) line from the latest collection, Blossoming of Grace. Wore the same in white in my post IVORY at Work. Paired the ROSEA with a kurung skirt from Pu3 Designs and Sugrascarf.

This look today reminds me of my pink and whire look around the same time last year PINK, AURA WHITE, CASSIA AND OYSTERS.

Kneok aka Khubayb caught me selfie-ing below! So that's the usual angle for my selfies for IG ;p

Yuna at Casuarina : Videos

Always mesmerised watching and listening to the multi-talented, international singer, songwriter and superstar Yuna perform live. This was not the first time I watched her perform, but last Saturday on 2nd May 2015 I still had goosebumps and was in awe with her skills and voice. She performed at Casuarina Meru Majlis Makan Malam Amal with Yuna which I attended with the husband, my mother, siblings and my bro's in-laws. The Makan Malam Amal was organised b the Kelab Bakti Gunung Keledang.

Here are some photos from the show taken by me, the husband @kneok and my brother @nadhilaqran@naqran. She performed 2 sets that night and she sang  a lot of songs but I only managed to record only two songs. I was enjoying the rest of the show so much that I didn't get to record it to share with you guys. The whole show was superb and amazing! The videos do not do her voice and performance justice. There was a time when her CDs were on my playlist rotation, but just listening to her live really is better than hearing her on CDs. And she's only one of the few performers who can manage that.

It was quite a formal event but still a very much entertaining one. The main royal guests who were there was the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah and his beautiful wife, Raja Permaisuri Tuanku Zara Salim among others. I'll share more in my next post about the event, how I got there and the lovely people I met.

I'm always happy to see you perform and I'm really proud of you. Keep flying high, Yuna!

The last time I blogged about Yuna's performance was in Yuna at Istana Budaya. That was in 2013. I also blogged and shared some pictures with Yuna in To the Left : The Modvier Launch in 2014.

Till my next post! Enjoy the photos and videos!

Sorry my hands were shaking when I captured this video. Should have brought a tripod :p

Today was an amazingly productive day for me. I did my first radio interview with BFM Radio Station and before that I had a great meeting to kick-start a fashion show (or two) for aere. I'm super duper excited for the fashion shows and it's really crunch time for aere these next few weeks. Apart from that, I'm planning for my next collection for aere to be released before Raya and I'm happy to *hint* that I'll be collaborating with a brand that I love, adore and respect. Any guesses? Hehe.

The meeting this morning made me realise so many things about aere and a lot more things about what I can do for aere too. Opportunities are everywhere, and it is just whether we want to take them or not and whether we want to move forward or just stay safe and be where we are. But then again, sometimes all we need is that little nudge or push from those around us, even strangers and most importantly our own instincts and that little voice inside us which we try not to listen because we are afraid of being too ambitious, or afraid to fail.

As for the interview with the radio station, I was really really nervous, but the dj host Azura was such a sweet person and I got comfortable after talking to her. We talked about me switching careers from being a lawyer to being a blogger and now running my own fashion label, the story of how aere came about, why I chose the name "aere", my future plans for aere and a lot of other things.

It really made me reflect on how aere has really grown over the last few months, especially since aere just launched at the end of October 2014. The growth has been really fast and sometimes I still feel that it's as though it's unreal because I didn't expect it. I'm truly still very much overwhelmed with the support given by family and friends, my readers here, my followers on Instagram, the media (press, papers, magazines, TV and now radio). It's crazy how supportive people are over here. All praises to God for the blessings. But I shouldn't stop here. I should move forward and push myself more. Still so much to learn so much more to do!

Over the recent long weekend (4 days of holidays because of Labour Day and Wesak Day), I went to Ipoh with the family for an event (see Yuna at Casuarina) and to visit my grandfather and relatives. I've been having very heavy coughs the past week and yesterday kneok and I were super tired because of the travelling (traffic was bad because of the holidays and the rain!). At the back of my head I was actually quite nervous about the meeting happening today and the radio interview. I'll be lying if I said that I wasn't nervous.

But Alhamdulillah, it went really really well. The rainbow after the rain :) Today came with a lot of surprises. And I really can't wait to share the next step I've taken for aere. I'm super exciited!!! I promise I will share with you all soon, insyaAllah.

In the meantime, I think I mentioned few times already how nervous I was to face today. To help overcome my nerves, I chose to wear this outfit. I call it the power outfit. It's amazing how you can overcome your nerves with the right choice of clothes. Something I learnt as a lawyer is that it is important to display your confidence through your clothes.  When you dress up confidently, you tend to gain more confidence. So I combined the formal element with just a hint of casualness so that it wasn't too formal.

The top represents my love for the arts with its abstract pattern and my favourite colour. The black blazer represents my background as a legally trained lawyer and the skirt represents the playful side of me experimenting with fashion in the beginning of my career in the fashion business which has just seriously kickstarted late last year, 2014.

2015 has been a really kind year for me so far. Alhamdulillah. I've just realized the potential to go forward even more, and while I am happy with what I have achieved, I know I can reach up to the stars and try harder for myself and for my brand, aere.

May God help me on my journey.

aere On Air - Interview with the BFM Radio Station

Couldn't believe it! I had my first ever radio station interview by Azura with BFM this week and it's going to be broadcast in half an hour!

In my previous post Powering Confidence , I mentioned that I went for the interview. I may have not mentioned that I was actually quite nervous!!! When I was in the car on the way to the venue and when I had arrived at the building, I was so nervous that I hesitated to press the door bell of the BFM office. I didn't show it to anyone though except @kneok who accompanied me to give me moral support.

But as soon as I stepped in, my nerves began to calm as I met a few BFM peeps who were super duper friendly and came up to say hi to me. I was then introduced to the very bubbly, loud and cheerful host, Azura in the waiting room. When she came in, we exchanged pleasantries and she started to ask me a few questions about myself that made me felt that the interview had already started. Hehe. But Azura and the questions she asked on the with of my careers, blogging and aere made me very comfortable. But because I already shared with her a few things while waiting for the equipment to be set up, during the actual interview I somehow forgot to share some of the stuffs I had already talked about. Oh well, I think I'll share the things I missed talking in the blog later.

I mostly talked about my switch of careers from being a lawyer to blogging and running my own fashion label aere. How it came about, why I started it and a lot of other things too. I also shared about aere's upcoming plans too. I shared a lot of stuffs that I haven't shared here in the blog. So probably I'll share you the interview link when it's out and also blog about it as well. (If all goes well)

Glad it went smoothly. Although I was nervous at first, it was quite exciting to talk non-stop (hehe). I'm sure they'll have to edit out a lot, as it is only a 15 minute segment and I think I must've been talking for close to 45 mins, even though I felt that it was quite quick. Haha.

Don't know how I'll sound like on air, but I'm going to find out really soon!

It'll be on air 11am today at 89.9 BFM Radio Station or you can click HERE to listen to it live.

aere Fashion Show 2015 : Part 1

Last two weeks has been a crazy super busy week. Good kind of busy with sleepless nights. :) I could barely sleep more than 2 hours every night because I was so nervous and excited all at the same time. It was aere's first solo fashion show last week. I'm blessed to have creative, talented and hardworking ladies around me who helped out when I was preparing for aere EID Fashion Show 2015 on 19th May at Royale Chulan KL presenting aere x dUCK collection in conjuction with Gaya Koleksi Raya 2015. Today is the whole day catalogue shoot for that collection, tomorrow I have an interview with Bella NTV7 and this Wednesday will be the campaign shoot for the aere x dUCK collection. Breatheee.

At the same time since my post aere On Air - Interview with the BFM Radio Station, other than working on the fashion show at Royale Chulan KL I've also been busy working on another new major collection for an upcoming fashion show happening in a few months time insyaAllah. I remember I hinted about these two fashion shows in my post Powering Confidence.

To be honest, I was super nervous before aere's first solo fashion show last week. I only had less than 2 weeks to prepare for it and the other collection for the upcoming fashion show. I was busy with preparing the looks, meetings with stylists, inviting guests, inviting media and sending out press releases, runninga contest on aere's IG, seating arrangements etc. After the show, I was on a natural high as the show went very well and smoothly. Alhamdulillah.

I'm so overwhelmed by the amount of help I received prior to the show, backstage during the show and mostly all the amazing support by those who came to see the show.

I really wished I could invite everyone who wanted to come to the show including more than 160 of those who entered the giveaway on aere's instagram to win the invites, but I could only pick 10. I also couldn't invite all family and friends as the seats were very very limited. I'm glad that everyone who RSVP'd turned up at the show except one or two.

Since I couldn't invite invite everybody to show, just a day before the show I decided to  hire a personal videographer to capture the moments at the show. One of closest friends, my sister who's getting married the same week of the show couldn't make it to the show reminded me to record the show too for memories sake and for them to have a look at it as they were going to miss it.

I'm so excited to share more soon, about the behind the scenes, the people who helped out, those who came, about the show, about the collection itself and much much more but in the meantime, have a look at the 15 seconds video below for a feel of how the fashion show looked like. Will share the full video here in the blog pretty soooonn!!!

Thank you to everyone who came to the show and for supporting me through social media. I can't even begin to express how I really, really appreciate your attendance and support. I planned to meet each and everyone who came to support aere but I'm so sorry that I didn't get to speak to everyone as the number of guests who came as well as guests from the media really overwhelmed me personally. I hope that all of you had  a lovely experience. I'd like everyone to know how much your support means to me. It means a LOTTTT!! Now, it's pushing me to give and share even more.

Thank you so so much everyone for all the love and support. I'm so inspired and motivated  to work even harder.

Do check out updates on my personal IG and aere's IG as well as hashtags : #aereEID2015 #aerexdUCK.
